'Roseanne' Revival: Former Cast Member, Glenn Quinn, Who Passed Away Would Be Remembered On The Show
'Roseanne' was one of the most popular TV shows in the 80s and 90s. Now ABC is set to release a revival on March 27. Majority of the main cast members including John Goodman and Roseanne Barr will be returning.
Quick facts about the reboot:
- the original show's finale aired nearly 21 years ago (in 1997);
- there will only be nine episodes;
- despite being killed off in the original show, John Goodman will be back for the revival;
- the season 10 will kick off on ABC with a one-hour premiere on Tuesday, March 27.
Honouring Glenn Quinn.
One of the beloved actors from the earlier seasons would not be making it back to the show. Sadly, Glenn Quinn, the young man who played Becky's boyfriend-turned-husband Mark, passed away in 2002 at the age of 32.
So fans have been wondering how the writers and producers would handle telling the story considering the fact that Quinn was one of the most important characters.
Evidently, the show devised a beautiful way of paying tribute to the late actor. In the revival, we would get to learn that Becky's onscreen husband passed away as well.
When producers were asked if this decision was made purposely to hold a significant meaning or it was just the only choice they had. executive producer Bruce Helford said the development was well thought-out.
We all had great affection for Glenn. We really wanted to say something.
Helford added that Mark's (the character Quinn played) name came up a couple of time in the episodes.
Roseanne Barr said they did not just gloss the whole thing over and that Quinn deserved to have a tribute on the show.
Apart from having Quinn's character be deceased, Mark's brother (in the show), David and his wife Darlene had two children. The younger one was named Mark after his late uncle.
Bringing back Goodman.
Not only did the show have to deal with the death of a character, they also had to bring another back to life. In the series finale, it was revealed that Dan (John Goodman) died of a heart attack. However, in the premiere revival episodes, Dan was there, seemingly hale and hearty.
The producers made use of dream sequence and a few other creative means to tell that particular story. Guess we will have to wait until release date to see exactly how this was done.
